FAQs

Does it hurt?

Your comfort is our top priority at ANP Skin Clinic. We administer an anaesthetic cream to numb the skin, making the procedure easier. As a result, the feeling you will experience will be a slight prickling one, which may be described as uncomfortable but not a sensation that is deemed painful. Certain areas can feel more sensitive than others, and you can also feel more sensitive due to hormonal changes and stress.  If pain is something that worries you, it is safe to take some Paracetamol an hour before your treatment to relieve any possible discomfort.

How many treatments would I need?

In order to see the desired Dermaroller results, 2 to 3 treatments are usually needed with 6 weeks between them.  In the case of acne scars and other types of scarring, it may be necessary for you to have extra treatments.

After the treatment your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement.

What can I expect before, during and after the treatment?

Initially, we will conduct an in-depth personal consultation to discuss your concerns and taking a medical history. We will answer any questions, which you can ask in a comfortable environment. At this stage we also closely examine your skin to assess your needs. It’s a big help if you come without make-up on for us to accurately test your skin but we can always remove it for you if necessary. To determine if we have secured the optimal before and after Dermaroller results for you, we take some photos to record your appearance before treatment to monitor the change.

An anaesthetic cream is applied to numb the skin making the procedure as comfortable as possible.  The treatment itself involves our expert using a Genuine Dermaroller ™ medical device to produce thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin and will be approximately 0.1mm in width. The dermis is the lower or inner layer of the two main layers of cells that make up the skin. The column will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly, often on the same day. The procedure normally takes approximately 30 minutes.

When the skin needling session is complete we will clean you up before administering SPF and a gentle recovery cream. We’ll supply you with a recovery cream and SPF for home-use for you to carry out your after-care.

After Treatment: Expect your face to look a little red after treatment, similar to if you had experience mild sunburn. This effect will last for about two days. Your skin might feel slightly tight throughout this stage but it shouldn’t feel sore. During the time your skin is still red, you should avoid using your usual skincare products. Instead, use the recovery cream and SPF we provide you with, which can serve as a moisturiser and cleanser. We advise that your apply the SPF daily for two weeks following the skin needling, bringing the cream with you if you go out on an especially sunny day during this period.

You’re free to wear light mineral make-up during the day following your Dermaroller™ Therapy™.  before-after-face-wrinkle

Is it right for me?

Skin needling via Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™is generally suitable for all adults, male and female, with age and ethnicity not needing to be taken into account. However, if you suffer from the conditions listed below it will be best to steer clear of Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™  as you are not likely to experience the same revitalising before and after Dermaroller results.

  • People with active acne (or papules).
  • People suffering from cold sores or skin infections (if you have had cold sores in the past, note that Dermaroller could result an outbreak).
  • Those with skin cancer.
  • People who have had keloid scarring (lumpy unsightly scars) before.
  • People currently taking anti-coagulant drugs such as Warfarin or Clopidogrel.
  • Patients who have taken oral retinoids (such as Roaccutane) in the past year.
  • Patients currently using topical retinoids who aren’t acclimatised to it yet.

How much does it cost?

Electronic Dermaroller is £200, though the price can vary depending on how may areas are treated. The first treatment includes 2 full size products. Any additional products needed are priced at the same cost as the Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™.

What are the risks?

Quality & safety are guaranteed and Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™ is only available from trained medical practitioners and authorised clinics, such as ANP Skin Clinic. We outline any risks the treatment involves to you in your personal consultation before the treatment but risks can include:

  • A slight danger of bruising with Dermaroller treatment.
  • A small risk of an increased severity of redness or swelling for an extended period of time.
  • Despite a theoretical risk of infection of the treated area existing, this is extremely rare as the Dermaroller is a strictly sterile device.
  • There is a very small risk of hyper-pigmentation (where patches of skin darken) of the skin. This is increased if you do not follow the after-care instructions about sun exposure.
